Settlement Checks To Be Mailed Later in August

About 25,000 current and former CBP employees will receive checks next month as part of NTEU’s Global Settlement of a dozen grievances related to BRP, scheduling and overtime violations. This has been a long battle that is finally coming to an end.

This message provides details about the distribution of checks and where you can get more information about the settlement.

In this agreement, CBP is paying $184 million. With the additional value of compensatory time, the amount of this settlement exceeds $200 million.

It is an unusually complex settlement with a complicated payout formula. Here are Frequently Asked Questions, which include more detail. The FAQs also provide information on retirees, former employees, how the overtime cap impacts payments, comp time awards, withholdings, Thrift Savings Plan contributions, retirement calculations and appeals.

Individuals holding bargaining unit CBP Officer or Agriculture Specialist positions any time between Oct. 1, 2010, and Sept. 30, 2015, are eligible for payments under the settlement.

More than half of the 25,000 employees and former employees covered by the settlement will receive at least $5,000. Less than one-quarter will receive less than $1,000, most likely because the employee was not in a bargaining unit position for at least six months during the applicable fiscal year, the employee had already received a substantial payment under another grievance, or the employee had relatively little service in a covered position between 2003 and 2015.

Payments are currently scheduled to be mailed from Aug. 14-25. Now would be a good time to make sure your home mailing address on file with the settlement administrator, Brown/Greer of Richmond, Va., is up to date. You can do this at www.cbpsettlement.com.

NTEU members can get more detail here.

We know it has been a long wait and we appreciate your patience. NTEU is proud to have reached this agreement that we believe provides substantial financial compensation to employees, remedies longstanding problems and also sends a message to all federal agencies about the penalties for violating collective bargaining agreements.
